Yay for a night out, no kids, a (rather small) glass of wine, and some comedy!!
Tessa Waters is a Melbourne based comic, who has a bucketful of shows at this years Comedy fest. In typical ‘Wilson’s of Oz’ fashion I was determined to see some true Aussie comics, so multi award winning Tessa seemed like the perfect fit!
We walked into Aphrodite’s room at the Greek Centre, to whoops, high fives from Tessa and music blaring! What a way to start the show.. Straight away I knew that this was going to be a full hour of fun. Tessa’s outfit alone was enough to make my day! She greeted us in a black leotard, stockings, and a pink blazer with ‘Fully Sik” emblazoned on the back in sequins. To top it all off she had the most awesome silver boots and wait for it…. a gold sequin ‘fanny pack’.. Oh my, ‘Girl Crush’ right here!
Tessa didn’t waste any time; she took us on the most astonishing, promised journey of ‘high octane’ sketches. It was truly remarkable how Tessa managed to take us into her dangerously funny sketches with just a flick of glitter from her pocket. There is no doubt in my mind, she is super clever. Everyone in the room fell head first into those real life moments Tessa created, passing a smoke around the room, and laughing because we had so been at that party before. We were guffawing because of her wonderful facial expressions, body pumping moves, and the way she utterly rocked the stage. She did all of this with not a prop in sight! Incredible.
There are few stand up comics who have that gift to be able to connect with the audience without making them cringe or feel embarrassed. Tessa made us all feel comfortable, welcome, and she worked her socks off to get the laughs that truly filled the 60 minutes. I read a review before seeing the show and it said we were in for face ache; I honestly had to massage my jaws on the journey home. I truly haven’t laughed so much in ages. We had an absolute blast! I have to admit, even though Tessa has made people laugh all over the globe, I had never laid eyes on her before this week.; it’s safe to say I will be seeking her out in the future. I cant wait to see what else she has in store for us over the rest of the Melbourne Comedy Fest!
Tessa you’re a legend!!
